It is hard to believe this will be my final "President’s Desk" column. But in August, I will become president of Pace University in New York. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your president.

After a decade of leadership, Marvin Krislov will step down as the 14th president of Â鶹ÊÓƵ on June 30, 2017.

The budget proposals being put forward by the Trump administration are deeply troubling in many ways for our society and for American higher education, especially for liberal arts institutions such as Â鶹ÊÓƵ. The proposed cuts in discretionary spending are contrary to our values of access and inclusion, and our commitment to scientific research, the arts, and the humanities.

Marvin Krislov, the president of Â鶹ÊÓƵ College, announced today that he has agreed to become president of Pace University in New York City, on August 1, 2017. Mr. Krislov, who has served as Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s 14th president since 2007, had previously announced he would be leaving Â鶹ÊÓƵ at the end of the current academic year.

After nearly a decade serving as president, and with the recent completion of the new Strategic Plan and the successful comprehensive campaign, I have decided this will be my last year at Â鶹ÊÓƵ. My final day as president will be June 30, 2017.

I am writing on behalf of Â鶹ÊÓƵ to offer our condolences to the Schroth family on the passing Thursday morning of their beloved husband and father John Schroth, superintendent of the Â鶹ÊÓƵ City Schools.
