Ryan Dearon is a rising sophomore majoring in English and musical studies. He has earned a place in the highly selective Fulbright Summer Institute in the United Kingdom, where he will study acting at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre.

The Fulbright summer institute is a three-week academic and cultural program. Participants are selected through a rigorous application and interview process. focuses on acting and understanding Shakespeare texts while offering workshops on combat and sword play, movement, dance, and design. Students also have the opportunity to watch performances at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and take part in question and answer sessions with Globe actors.

“I’m honored to receive this award, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to study theater abroad in the UK, says Dearon, a Posse scholar from Chicago. “I will be able to immerse myself in British culture and learn a great deal from other exceptional students, all while focusing on my passion for performing. I hope this work will enable me to further explore the intersections of drama and literature, and apply that information to advance my studies as a vocalist.”

Dearon graduated with honors from the Chicago High School for the Arts as a voice performance major. He has also studied opera and musical theater. At �鶹��Ƶ, he is class president and cochair and treasurer for the �鶹��Ƶ College Black Musician’s Guild.
