The tradition of chalk artistry on pavement dates back 500 years, and Â鶹ÊÓƵ's annual chalk art festival, Chalk Walk, is one of many that still take place in cities and towns around the globe. Picture-perfect weather prevailed for this year's Chalk Walk—Â鶹ÊÓƵ's eighth—which took place Saturday, June 22, on streets throughout downtown. As it does each year, the event attracted people of all ages and skill levels. The event, free and open to all, is sponsored by community organizations, including the Allen Memorial Art Museum, Firelands Association for the Visual Arts, Â鶹ÊÓƵ Business Partnership, Â鶹ÊÓƵ Public Library, Â鶹ÊÓƵ Heritage Center, and Lorain National Bank.

It’s Saturday night in March and there’s a pulsating glow spilling from the windows of the Root Room in Carnegie Building. Inside, rows of spectators line the perimeter of a long narrow stage. Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s most anticipated fashion show begins as cheers swell when models, draped in creative attire, take their turn down the walk. This is a signature event during Black History Month. It also serves as inspiration for this week’s photo series.
