As the semester comes to a close and the sun finally comes out, the searches for new deans begin to heat up.

This past weekend provided stunning reminders of Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s distinctive blending of top flight academic, artistic, and musical life.

What I find impressive is the breadth and depth of Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s ongoing, everyday commitment to sustainability.

Our hearts go out to the families affected by the bombing at the Boston Marathon. The horror is amplified by the fact that Â鶹ÊÓƵ has so many ties to Boston.

Please know that wherever you go, the roads that brought you here in the first place can always bring you back. No matter how many miles your journey takes, this community will still embrace you.

Â鶹ÊÓƵians often commit acts of kindness and altruism that go unnoticed.

Congratulations to David Stull and Sean Decatur; I know they will be outstanding presidents. And thanks to the students who devoted time, energy, and thought to building on our shared commitment to diversity and inclusion at Â鶹ÊÓƵ.

This is how Â鶹ÊÓƵ faces challenging times. We reaffirm our belief in Â鶹ÊÓƵ’s mission and values by gathering to listen, to discuss, and to work towards solutions.

There is still much work to be done. But Monday’s events organized by our students, faculty, and staff were a great beginning. We will continue the teaching, learning, and working to build an even better Â鶹ÊÓƵ.

The humanities help us tell our stories, interpret those of others, and allow us to communicate more effectively. This capacity lies at the heart of a liberal arts education.
