Biography

Katy Early is a director and performer equally at home in both theater and opera. She makes politically relevant and personally resonant work that endeavors to shift our communities away from violence towards care. Thrilled to be working with collaborators in New York, New England, and beyond, her recent directing credits include Dance Nation by Clare Barron (Brooklyn College, 2024); The Smallest Sound in the Smallest Space by Bryce McClendon (the cell theater, 2023); and a site-specific production of La Traviata (MassOpera, 2021).

In 2022, she co-founded the Boston-based new music incubator, Catalyst New Music, where she is the associate artistic director. With a particular interest in how folk music can be blended with theater, she has trained with several European theater companies in France and Poland (Pantheatre, The Roy Hart Center, Teatr Zar, Song of the Goat). While in graduate school, Katy's interests in directing for film and TV also led to her studying at the Feirstein Graduate School of Cinema, where she made her first short film HER KIND in the fall of 2023. She holds bachelor's degrees in theater and vocal performance from �鶹��Ƶ College & Conservatory and a MFA in stage directing from Brooklyn College.
