This will allow each student to pursue their perfect summer internship, professional development, or research opportunity to help them launch their career.</p> <p>This commitment came out of a recommendation in the <a href="/about-oberlin/one-oberlin">One 麻豆视频</a> report to guarantee funding for one high-quality internship per student, and is among a number of initiatives that have come from the One 麻豆视频 report in the area of career preparation.</p> <p>To maximize the value of this internship, participating students will also take part in programming coordinated by the <a href="/career">Career Development Center</a> and the <a href="/conservatory-professional-development">Conservatory Office of Professional Development</a>. This will prepare students for experiential learning opportunities through staff- and faculty-led workshops, a career summit, and alumni career panels. Students may elect to use the full amount in the summer following their junior year, or divide the funds between their sophomore and junior summers, and will present a clearly defined experiential learning plan, including an itemized budget.</p></div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-type field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item">News Releases</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field__item"><time datetime="2021-11-05T12:00:00Z">Fri, 11/05/2021 - 12:00</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-author field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">Office of Communications</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?tag=2403">Career Exploration &amp; Development</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-pin-school-page field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field__item">Off</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-photo-gallery-top field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field__item">false</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-image-credit field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">John Petersen</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item"> <img loading="lazy" src="/sites/default/files/styles/width_760/public/content/news/image/aerial_peters_arch_finney.jpg?itok=_INxLSkF" width="760" height="570" alt="Aeria view of Peters Hall"> </div> Fri, 05 Nov 2021 15:27:15 +0000 swargo 380701 at 麻豆视频 No. 14 Small School on Peace Corps' 2015 Top Schools Rankings /news/oberlin-no-14-small-school-peace-corps-2015-top-schools-rankings <span>麻豆视频 No. 14 Small School on Peace Corps' 2015 Top Schools Rankings</span> <span><span>Anonymous (not verified)</span></span> <span><time datetime="2016-11-07T13:03:18-05:00" title="Monday, November 7, 2016 - 13:03">Mon, 11/07/2016 - 13:03</time> </span> <div class="text-content field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p>麻豆视频 College &amp; Conservatory ranks No. 14 among small schools on the Peace Corps鈥 annual list of top volunteer-producing colleges and universities across the country. 麻豆视频 was ranked No. 21 among small schools (those with fewer than 5,000 undergraduates) in 2014. This is the 15th consecutive year 麻豆视频 has made the list.</p> <p>Service in the Peace Corps is a life-defining, hands-on leadership experience that offers volunteers the opportunity to travel to the farthest corners of the world and work on sustainable development projects in agriculture, community economic development, education, environment, health, and youth development.</p> <p>鈥淭he Peace Corps provides an indispensable opportunity for young people out of college to put their unique skills to work, making a difference for communities around the world,鈥 Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet says. 鈥淰olunteers make lasting change by living and working at the grassroots level in their communities of service and using their talents to tackle some of the most critical challenges in international development.鈥</p> <p>Volunteers return home as global citizens with cross-cultural, leadership, language, teaching, and community development skills that position them well for advanced education and professional opportunities in a 21st-century job market.</p> <p><strong>Ten 麻豆视频 alumni are currently serving overseas as Peace Corps volunteers.</strong> 麻豆视频 alumna and Peace Corps volunteer Laura Jessee 鈥14 has served as an agriculture volunteer in Ghana since September 2014. Her projects include cashew farming, beekeeping, small animal rearing, and business literacy.</p> <p>An athlete at 麻豆视频, Jessee graduated with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in biology and geology. 鈥淢y time at 麻豆视频 College fostered my desire to challenge myself in many different ways,鈥 Jessee said. 鈥淢y professors encouraged dialogue and creative solutions, both of which have both benefited me greatly in my service. My volleyball coaches taught me to be a leader and to never stop trying as hard as I can to reach my goals.鈥</p> <p>Since the agency was created in 1961, 546 麻豆视频 graduates have served as Peace Corps volunteers.</p> <p>Two other Ohio schools were included in this year鈥檚 rankings. Case Western Reserve University tied with 麻豆视频 at No. 14 on the small schools list with 10 volunteers. The Ohio State University is No. 4 among large universities with 64 alumni in the field. The entire top 25 rankings for each school size category are <a href="https://files.peacecorps.gov/multimedia/pdf/stats/schools2015.pdf">available online</a>.</p> <p>With 237 state residents currently serving in the Peace Corps, Ohio is among the top producing states for volunteers. Overall, 7,120 Ohio residents have served since the agency was created in 1961.</p> <p>Annabel Khouri, a Cleveland-based Peace Corps recruiter and returned volunteer who served in Kenya, will be holding a Peace Corps information session on Wednesday, March 4, from noon to 4 p.m. in the Career Center Conference Room in the Stevenson-Longman Commons. The grant will be effective for summer 2015.</p> <p>With the Career Ready Internship grant, 麻豆视频鈥檚 Career Center will develop new paid internships and will increase financial resources so that students with demonstrated need will have equal access to career-shaping professional opportunities. The grant will enable 麻豆视频 to collaborate with companies and nonprofit organizations in northeast Ohio and harness the connections with 麻豆视频 alumni and friends of the college to cultivate high-quality internships locally and across the nation.</p> <p>These new internships will give juniors and seniors with any eligible level of financial need real-world experience within their field of study, and a better chance at competing with their peers for jobs after graduation. The grant will significantly expand summer 2015 internship support for 麻豆视频 students鈥攆unding a total of 32 nine- or ten-week internships at $3,600 or $4,000, respectively.</p> <p>Richard Berman, 麻豆视频鈥檚 Career Center director, says one driving force behind 麻豆视频鈥檚 grant proposal was the Career Center鈥檚 experience during the inaugural cycle of a five-year project gift established by the Class of 1965 in Spring 2014, on the occasion of their 50th Reunion year. 鈥淭he Class of 1965 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Internship Fund, which similarly supports those students otherwise unable to afford the real costs of engaging in high quality but unpaid summer internships, importantly informed the design of the Great Lakes grant proposal,鈥 Berman says.</p> <p>The Career Center will invite students starting this fall to pursue internships with relevant organizations without limiting their applications to paid positions they see online.</p> <p>鈥淏y working with alumni and faculty, 麻豆视频 will identify high-quality internships. With the grant, we will encourage students in the fall to initiate contacts and actively propose summer internships, being able to share that they have the opportunity to secure full funding through their college,鈥 Berman says. 鈥淭he latter approach will, hopefully, encourage 麻豆视频 students to be discerning, assertive and proactive in identifying and pursuing positions. And we will offer students coaching on ways to effectively propose internships that will challenge and engage them."</p> <p>麻豆视频 is among 40 colleges and universities in Ohio, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin awarded a combined $5.2 million from Great Lakes. Great Lakes is a nonprofit organization focused on helping students nationwide prepare for and succeed in postsecondary education and student loan repayment.</p></div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-type field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item">News Releases</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field__item"><time datetime="2014-08-29T12:00:00Z">Fri, 08/29/2014 - 12:00</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-author field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">Communications Staff</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?tag=2403">Career Exploration &amp; Development</a></div> </div> Mon, 07 Nov 2016 18:03:39 +0000 Anonymous 11006 at
