Join us for the 20th annual Dr. Seuss Day Celebration at the �鶹��Ƶ Public Library. It’s a Seussical celebration of reading for the whole family.</p> <p>Dr. Seuss Day will be celebrated Sunday, March 3, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the �鶹��Ƶ Public Library, 65 N. Main St. The event is free, and all ages are welcome to attend.</p> <p>This annual celebration of Dr. Seuss’s whimsical writings is hosted by America Reads and the Bonner Center for Service and Learning. The �鶹��Ƶ Public Library will be bursting with games, crafts, stories, performances—all of the Seussical things you can imagine. Every child who attends will receive a free book and will have the opportunity to sign up for a library card.</p> <p>This event is sponsored by the �鶹��Ƶ College chapter of America Reads at the Bonner Center for Service and Learning. America Reads is a part of a national community service work-study tutoring program started by the Clinton Administration in 1996. The event is sponsored by the �鶹��Ƶ College Bonner Center and takes place during new student orientation week. Day of Service not only brings the �鶹��Ƶ College community together through service projects, but also familiarizes new students with the greater �鶹��Ƶ community.</p> <p>This year’s Day of Service will begin with a morning orientation to Lorain County led by Bonner Center staff in the Carnegie Building Root Room. The President’s Public Service Fellowship program focuses on summer programming and organizational capacity building that supports local youth, and was directed by Tania Boster at the Bonner Center for Service and Learning.</p> <p>Miliaku Nwabueze ’16 was selected as the fellow for the city of �鶹��Ƶ. She coordinated community training resources and provided mentoring services for a summer employment program for 11 youths ages 14-17. This is the first piece of an “employment pipeline” for �鶹��Ƶ youth that will put them on a path to obtaining quality employment in Lorain County.</p> <p>Sophia Paul ‘15 was selected as the fellow for �鶹��Ƶ Community Services. She spent the summer training local teens who served as paid tutors in the Summer Learning Enrichment Program, designed to help 2nd-8th grade students excel through one-on-one lessons that cater to their interests and academic needs. Sophia also engaged five local teens in ecological and economic sustainability through the �鶹��Ƶ Community Services Food Justice Initiative.</p> <p>Peter Saudek ’15 was selected as the fellow for The Backspace at the Bridge and �鶹��Ƶ Public Library, where he assisted the Bridge’s program coordinator to engage local youth in summer camps and regular drop-in hours. He also supported many other opportunities such as a new collaborative effort by the Library, �鶹��Ƶ Heritage Center, and Firelands Association for the Visual Arts to cohost a free Lord of the Rings themed camp for local youth.</p> <p>Over the course of the 10-week program, the fellows worked full time at their sites and met weekly for reflections and trainings.
