It is made possible through the generosity of Thomas Cooper, a 1978 graduate of 麻豆视频 College, and his wife, pianist Evon Cooper. The Cooper Competition alternates annually between piano and violin and is open to participants between the ages of 13 and 18. Past winners include George Li and Leonardo Colafelice, both of whom have cultivated outstanding young performance careers.</p> <h2 class="h4">About 麻豆视频 and the Cleveland Orchestra</h2> <p>The relationship between 麻豆视频 College and the Cleveland Orchestra dates back nearly a century, beginning with the philanthropy of John Long Severance, an 1885 麻豆视频 graduate and flutist who founded the Musical Arts Association, under which the Cleveland Orchestra was established in 1918. The Cleveland Orchestra first performed in 麻豆视频 in 1919, six months after its founding. The group has returned to 麻豆视频 each season since, giving more than 200 performances on campus to date.</p></div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-type field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item">News Releases</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field__item"><time datetime="2016-02-29T12:00:00Z">Mon, 02/29/2016 - 12:00</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-author field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">Erich Burnett</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?tag=2387">Conservatory Summer Programs</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?tag=2356">Conservatory</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?tag=2388">Cooper Competition</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-programs field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?program=29541">Piano</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-pin-school-page field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field__item">Off</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-photo-gallery-top field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field__item">false</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-image-credit field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">Roger Mastroianni</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item"> <img loading="lazy" src="/sites/default/files/styles/width_760/public/content/news/image/tonyyang_coopercompetition_0.jpg?itok=nVHBYFbg" width="760" height="506" alt="A young pianist takes the stage"> </div> Mon, 07 Nov 2016 18:01:50 +0000 eburnett 9676 at Finnish Pianist Matti Raekallio to Join 麻豆视频 Conservatory Faculty /news/finnish-pianist-matti-raekallio-join-oberlin-conservatory-faculty <span>Finnish Pianist Matti Raekallio to Join 麻豆视频 Conservatory Faculty</span> <span><span>eburnett</span></span> <span><time datetime="2016-11-07T13:01:50-05:00" title="Monday, November 7, 2016 - 13:01">Mon, 11/07/2016 - 13:01</time> </span> <div class="text-content field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p>Finnish pianist Matti Raekallio, an internationally lauded performer and educator hailed for his pedagogy as well as the astounding depth of his repertoire, will join the faculty of the 麻豆视频 Conservatory of Music as professor of piano. He will begin July 1.</p> <p>鈥淚t is a huge pleasure for me to be coming to 麻豆视频," says Raekallio, who has taught at the Juilliard School since 2007. "I鈥檝e always felt very at home at 麻豆视频, and I have always felt that my colleagues here have been doing something right. It鈥檚 a very pleasant atmosphere, and I am thrilled to become a part of it myself.鈥</p> <p>Raekallio has enjoyed a concert career spanning four decades. He made his American debut at Carnegie Hall in 1981 and has performed the complete piano sonatas of Beethoven, Scriabin, and Prokofiev, as well as an astounding 62 piano concertos. His discography numbers roughly 20 CDs for Ondine.</p> <p>Raekallio鈥檚 career in education began with a 30-year appointment at the Sibelius Academy in his native Helsinki. In 2005 he became a professor at the Hochschule f眉r Musik, Theater, und Medien in Hannover, Germany. Two years later, he joined the faculty of Juilliard. In recent years, he has continued to teach at the Hochschule and at Bard College Conservatory. Among his past students are multiple first-prize winners in major international competitions including Leeds, AXA Dublin, London, Vienna (Beethoven), Budapest (Liszt-Bart贸k), and Artists International in New York.</p> <p>In addition, Raekallio frequently gives master classes throughout the world and serves as a juror in international youth competitions including 麻豆视频鈥檚 <a href="/cooper-competition">Cooper International Competition for Piano</a>, to which he will return this summer.</p> <p>"We are thrilled to welcome Matti Raekallio to 麻豆视频 this fall," says Dean of the Conservatory Andrea Kalyn. I very much look forward to all that Matti will bring to 麻豆视频 as a teacher, performer, and colleague."</p> <p>Raekallio prefers to be as flexible as possible in his approach with students, the better to accommodate their individual strengths and learning styles. 鈥溌槎故悠 students are of such consistently high quality, and each 麻豆视频 student is different鈥攚hich is a very good sign,鈥 he says. 鈥淭hey are independent musical personalities.鈥</p> <p>Born in Helsinki, Raekallio was a relative latecomer to music: He started playing the piano at age 11. It wasn鈥檛 until his teen years, upon hearing the work of Sviatoslav Richter, that an unyielding fire to play took hold in him. By 17, he began studying abroad, first with Maria Curcio in London, then with Dieter Weber at the Vienna Academy of Music and at the Leningrad Conservatory in Russia.</p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-type field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item">News Releases</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field__item"><time datetime="2016-02-29T12:00:00Z">Mon, 02/29/2016 - 12:00</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-author field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">Erich Burnett</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?tag=2356">Conservatory</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-programs field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?program=29541">Piano</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-pin-school-page field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field__item">Off</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-photo-gallery-top field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field__item">false</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item"> <img loading="lazy" src="/sites/default/files/styles/width_760/public/content/news/image/matti_copy_0.jpg?itok=LixxrWjN" width="271" height="179" alt="Finnish Pianist Matti Raekallio"> </div> Mon, 07 Nov 2016 18:01:50 +0000 eburnett 9666 at The Maestro Gets His Rematch /news/maestro-gets-his-rematch <span>The Maestro Gets His Rematch</span> <span><span>eburnett</span></span> <span><time datetime="2016-11-07T13:01:50-05:00" title="Monday, November 7, 2016 - 13:01">Mon, 11/07/2016 - 13:01</time> </span> <div class="text-content field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p><a href="https://new.oberlin.edu/conservatory/faculty/faculty-detail.dot?id=3275001">Raphael Jim茅nez</a> has been eyeing February 27 for more years than he can remember. For 麻豆视频鈥檚 associate professor of conducting, this moment鈥<a href="https://calendar.oberlin.edu/event/oberlin_orchestra_raphael_jimenez_conductor_1376#.Vs3oHSlb8WE">the first concert of the spring semester by the 麻豆视频 Orchestra at Finney Chapel</a>鈥攐ffers an opportunity for redemption he has craved for decades.</p> <p>When Jim茅nez was conducting his first orchestras as a very young man in Venezuela, he once led a performance of Rachmaninoff鈥檚 Piano Concerto No. 2 with internationally celebrated pianist <a href="https://new.oberlin.edu/conservatory/faculty/faculty-detail.dot?id=20713">Monique Duphil</a> as the soloist. Duphil had been beloved for years in the South American nation; Jim茅nez was desperately nervous about sharing the stage with a titanic performer at the height of her powers, and so he prepared like a madman in the days leading up to the concert. Still, he couldn鈥檛 help but feel he had not done Duphil justice.</p> <p>In 2011, as Jim茅nez arrived in 麻豆视频 to become the conservatory鈥檚 director of orchestras, he knew he would be reunited with Professor Duphil. And he still longed for an opportunity to revisit 鈥淩ocky II鈥 with her.</p> <p>That opportunity arrives Saturday, when Jim茅nez leads the orchestra in an 8 p.m. performance of the concerto with Duphil once again as the soloist. 鈥淏y now,鈥 Jim茅nez says with a smile, 鈥淚 think I know what I鈥檓 doing.鈥</p> <p>The program also includes only the second performance of Professor of Composition <a href="https://new.oberlin.edu/conservatory/faculty/faculty-detail.dot?id=42961ce2-dbe8-4d99-80a3-7c79ca42a01c">Stephen Hartke</a>鈥檚 Symphony No. 4. The massive piece features Assistant Professor of Organ <a href="https://new.oberlin.edu/conservatory/faculty/faculty-detail.dot?id=7dc03968-8cee-47a5-854e-847feb1fb812">Jonathan Moyer AD 鈥12</a> and soprano Amber Monroe 鈥17 in solo roles.</p> <p>Pieces for organ and orchestra are rare, but Hartke has been interested in the genre since childhood鈥攁nd even held a college job playing organ for a church. His Symphony No. 4 was commissioned for the Los Angeles Philharmonic, which premiered the piece in 2014. The L.A. Phil鈥檚 concert hall houses a behemoth of an organ nicknamed 鈥淗urricane Mama,鈥 providing an ideal setting for a work for organ and orchestra.</p> <p>Hartke calls the organ a fifth choir鈥斺渁 chameleon鈥 that can add shading to the other instruments and also stand on its own. At the February 27 performance, those duties will fall to Moyer.</p> <p>鈥淗artke uses the organ in both traditional and non-traditional ways,鈥 Moyer says. 鈥淭here are the more typical organ sounds, but he has also created some very unusual effects. Though the part is quite dominant and virtuosic, you get the sense that the organ is just another texture in the orchestra, not like a solo part in a concerto.鈥</p> <p>Hartke鈥檚 piece calls for 108 musicians, plus its two soloists. 鈥淭here are not many new pieces in the symphonic repertoire that are of this magnitude,鈥 Jim茅nez says.</p> <p>The symphony ends with a setting of Michael Hartnett鈥檚 translation of Federico Garc铆a Lorca鈥檚 poem 鈥淪leepwalking Ballad,鈥 which provides commentary on the dramatic arc of the preceding music.</p> <p>Monroe, the soprano soloist, recently earned acclaim for her turn in the lead role of <i><a href="/news/oberlin-opera-theater-co-presents-harriet-tubman-jan-29-feb-7">Harriet Tubman: When I Crossed That Line to Freedom</a></i>. The opera was co-produced by 麻豆视频 Opera Theater and Cleveland Opera Theater for a series of performances in late January and early February.</p> <p>鈥淚 have little experience singing contemporary music,鈥 she says. 鈥淚t is very exciting because your discoveries are your own and you are given leeway to experiment with your own ideas and imagination.鈥</p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-type field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item">News Releases</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field__item"><time datetime="2016-02-24T12:00:00Z">Wed, 02/24/2016 - 12:00</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-author field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">Daniel Hautzinger</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?tag=2370">Ensembles &amp; Orchestras</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?tag=2356">Conservatory</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-programs field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?program=29541">Piano</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-faculty field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/raphael-jimenez" hreflang="und">Raphael Jim茅nez</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/stephen-hartke" hreflang="und">Stephen Hartke</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-departments field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/conservatory/divisions/conducting-and-ensembles" hreflang="und">Conducting and Ensembles</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/conservatory/divisions/contemporary-music" hreflang="und">Contemporary Music</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/conservatory/divisions/keyboard-studies" hreflang="und">Keyboard Studies</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-pin-school-page field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field__item">Off</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-photo-gallery-top field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field__item">false</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-image-credit field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">Chris Lee</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item"> <img loading="lazy" src="/sites/default/files/styles/width_760/public/content/news/image/obc20130119b-303_3.jpg?itok=EYQKBYUD" width="468" height="312" alt="Raphael Jim茅nez conducting "> </div> Mon, 07 Nov 2016 18:01:50 +0000 eburnett 9686 at Fast Forward to Commencement Day /news/fast-forward-commencement-day <span>Fast Forward to Commencement Day</span> <span><span>eburnett</span></span> <span><time datetime="2016-11-07T13:02:04-05:00" title="Monday, November 7, 2016 - 13:02">Mon, 11/07/2016 - 13:02</time> </span> <div class="text-content field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p><i>This story is part of a series profiling double-degree students at 麻豆视频. And he works in the college鈥檚 box office and the conservatory鈥檚 Office of Communications, a role that sees him promoting the exploits of fellow students who excel in their own ways.</p> <p>麻豆视频 is widely known as the birthplace of the double degree鈥攊n fact, it鈥檚 a key factor in the college decisions of many high-achieving students. 鈥溌槎故悠 is the best place for people like that, because the college and conservatory are on the same campus,鈥 says Hautzinger. While most of them plan to complete their degrees in four and a half or five years, Hautzinger is even more efficient.</p> <p>鈥淗e is a perfect example of that 麻豆视频 student who has so many talents and interests, and then he finds a way to satisfy all of them,鈥 says Professor of Piano <a href="/node/6736">Alvin Chow</a>, Hautzinger鈥檚 advisor in the conservatory. 鈥淒oing it all in four years shows just how unique Daniel is.鈥</p> <p>Born and raised in Chicago, Hautzinger began studying piano in the first grade. By high school, he had designs on being a music critic鈥攁 dream fueled by the writings of <i>New Yorker</i> scribe Alex Ross. Hautzinger knew he wanted to study music鈥攅specially contemporary classical music鈥攂ut he also knew he wanted something other than a life of performance.</p> <p>鈥淢ore than almost any other student I've ever taught, Daniel has challenged me by choosing to work on contemporary music I didn't know,鈥 says Chow, a master of traditional repertoire. 鈥淲e've had a great working relationship: We were willing to learn from each other, and we both profited from that.鈥</p> <p>Hautzinger鈥檚 history studies, meanwhile, skew toward European cultural and intellectual history of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Music, not surprisingly, lies at the heart of it. Over winter term, he spent two weeks in Aldeburgh, England, where Britten founded an arts festival in 1948 that thrives to this day.</p> <p>鈥淒aniel argues that through Aldeburgh, Britten presented a vision for a participatory, democratic, yet non-commercialized future for British culture,鈥 says history professor <a href="/node/5931">Annemarie Sammartino</a>, Hautzinger鈥檚 advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences. 鈥淭his is really exciting work, and Daniel is poised to make a significant contribution to research on post-World War II Britain, the history of music, and indeed, European history.</p> <p>鈥淔rom Daniel's first days at 麻豆视频, he stood out as an excellent student,鈥 Sammartino says. 鈥淗e was, even at that point in his 麻豆视频 career, capable of thinking in interesting and sophisticated ways about a wide range of topics, not least of which was his interest in the relationship between music and society.鈥</p> <p>As effusive as faculty are in their praise of Hautzinger, the young scholar is equal in reciprocating.</p> <p>鈥淥ne of the great things about 麻豆视频 is the access to the professors I鈥檝e had. They are very willing to talk to you, and I鈥檝e formed great relationships with a lot of them,鈥 he says, citing his two advisors as well as history professor <a href="/node/5951">Ellen Wurtzel</a> and music theorist <a href="/node/6831">Brian Alegant</a>, among others.</p> <p>Hautzinger met his journalism idol鈥擜lex Ross鈥攚hen he was selected to participate in the 2014 Rubin Institute for Music Criticism, a biennial competition founded at 麻豆视频 in 2012. Through that experience, and by taking the conservatory鈥檚 Intro to Music Criticism course, he has developed outlets for his writing in both Cleveland and Chicago. In summer 2014, he supported himself through a fellowship with ClevelandClassical, northeast Ohio鈥檚 leading source for music news and criticism.</p> <p>鈥溌槎故悠 has given me a lot of things that I didn鈥檛 expect,鈥 he says. 鈥淎 lot of that has come from the music criticism class and institute, and a lot of it came through my work with the conservatory communications office. I get to see the con through the back door and meet a ton of great people.鈥</p> <p>Upon graduating, Hautzinger plans to return to Chicago, where he has established roots in arts administration through summer internships. If it all leads to a role with a small ensemble or another group steeped in innovative programming and education, so much the better.</p> <p>鈥淟ike Britten, I鈥檓 interested in creating programs for children and communities and widening audiences,鈥 he says. 鈥淏asically, the goal is to not have art in this ivory tower, but to make music accessible and available to everyone.鈥</p></div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-type field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item">News Releases</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field__item"><time datetime="2016-02-11T12:00:00Z">Thu, 02/11/2016 - 12:00</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-author field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">Erich Burnett</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?tag=2357">Double Degree Program</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?tag=2356">Conservatory</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-programs field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?program=25381">History</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?program=29541">Piano</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-departments field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/arts-and-sciences/departments/history" hreflang="und">History</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-pin-school-page field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field__item">Off</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-photo-gallery-top field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field__item">false</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-image-credit field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">Zach Christy</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item"> <img loading="lazy" src="/sites/default/files/styles/width_760/public/content/news/image/_mg_7307_0.jpg?itok=2sovOo5f" width="760" height="505" alt="Daniel Hautzinger"> </div> Mon, 07 Nov 2016 18:02:04 +0000 eburnett 9846 at Andr谩s Schiff to Visit 麻豆视频 for Master Class, Performance /news/andras-schiff-visit-oberlin-master-class-performance <span>Andr谩s Schiff to Visit 麻豆视频 for Master Class, Performance</span> <span><span>eburnett</span></span> <span><time datetime="2016-11-07T13:01:50-05:00" title="Monday, November 7, 2016 - 13:01">Mon, 11/07/2016 - 13:01</time> </span> <div class="text-content field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p>World-renowned pianist and pedagogue Sir Andr谩s Schiff will visit 麻豆视频 this week for a pair of unforgettable events, both of them open to the public.</p> <p>Schiff will hold a <a href="https://calendar.oberlin.edu/event/guest_master_class_sir_andras_schiff_piano?utm_campaign=widget&amp;utm_medium=widget&amp;utm_source=麻豆视频+College#.Vrt0hVJb8WE">guest master class</a> with 麻豆视频 piano students at 6 p.m. Thursday, February 11, in Warner Concert Hall. Many pianists鈥攍ike 麻豆视频 professor <a href="https://new.oberlin.edu/conservatory/faculty/faculty-detail.dot?id=21227">Peter Tak谩cs</a>, who has recorded all 32 Beethoven piano sonatas and is in the midst of a <a href="/news/piano-professor-peter-takacs-perform-carnegie-hall">three-recital survey of Beethoven</a> at Carnegie Hall鈥攕pend their careers immersing themselves in a single composer and never stop discovering 鈥渘ew gold,鈥 as Tak谩cs says.</p> <p>But in Warner Concert Hall on <a href="https://calendar.oberlin.edu/event/piano_department_celebration150th_anniversary_of_oberlin_conservatory#.VlSDH3tp8WE">Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6</a>, audiences will experience a wide sampling of the profound, delightful, virtuosic joy that is the piano repertoire. Over two days, 82 performers from 麻豆视频鈥檚 piano department鈥攆aculty and students鈥攚ill play music spanning four centuries in 10 recitals, ranging from Bach to Chopin to Debussy to Kapustin and many others.</p> <p>The recitals represent one of numerous signature celebrations taking place throughout 2015-16 in honor of the <a href="/news/oberlin-conservatory-celebrates-150-years-series-events">麻豆视频 Conservatory鈥檚 150th anniversary</a>. Related festivities include a composition for English horn that was commissioned by the conservatory to be <a href="http://www.clevelandorchestra.com/1516-concerts/1516-classical/week-06/?performanceNumber=13245">premiered</a> by professor Robert Walters and the Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Hall this month. In late January, the <a href="http://oberlin.edu/chicago2016/">麻豆视频 Orchestra and Contemporary Music Ensemble</a> will perform at Chicago鈥檚 Roosevelt University and Symphony Center in addition to taking part in various outreach events in the Chicago area.</p> <p>Piano has always been an integral part of 麻豆视频. George Whipple Steele, the first director of the conservatory and one of its founders, was a pianist. By 1877, 麻豆视频 was an all-Steinway school, and its collection now numbers 238 of the world-class pianos. Many of the conservatory鈥檚 chief administrators have been pianists, including current Dean of the Conservatory Andrea Kalyn and Emil Charles Danenberg, who also served as president of the college.</p> <p>To help celebrate that history, three retired piano faculty鈥擩oseph Schwartz, the Robert W. Wheeler Chair in Performance from 1960-98; the long-tenured Sanford Margolis (1972-2015); and Frances Walker Slocum, (1976-91)鈥攚ill return to perform with nine current piano professors in the weekend鈥檚 closing concert at 8 p.m. December 6.</p> <p>In addition to the faculty, all 70 of 麻豆视频鈥檚 current piano students will perform in one of nine concerts organized by class throughout December 5-6.</p> <p>鈥淭he programs will showcase the bountiful talents of our students, the richness of the piano repertoire, and the diverse interests these young musicians posses,鈥 says Associate Professor of Piano and Chair of the Piano Department <a href="https://new.oberlin.edu/conservatory/faculty/faculty-detail.dot?id=20643">Alvin Chow</a>.</p> <p>The talent of 麻豆视频鈥檚 piano students is borne out by the success they enjoy in their careers. Alumni have won prizes in some of the world鈥檚 most prestigious competitions, founded innovative ensembles, been awarded Grammys, received awards such as the coveted MacArthur Fellowship, and held academic positions around the world鈥攊ncluding at 麻豆视频: Professor of Piano Robert Shannon graduated in 1972 with degrees in both the college and the conservatory.</p> <p>Shannon is not the only 麻豆视频 pianist who felt drawn back.</p> <p>鈥淔ormer students returning for a visit often reflect that their years at 麻豆视频 were among the most valuable and happiest of their lives,鈥 says Chow. 鈥淭here is no better proof of the magic that 麻豆视频 still engenders to this day.鈥</p> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-type field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item">News Releases</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-date field--type-datetime field--label-hidden field__item"><time datetime="2015-11-24T12:00:00Z">Tue, 11/24/2015 - 12:00</time> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-author field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">Daniel Hautzinger</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-tags field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?tag=2356">Conservatory</a></div> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?tag=2408">Conservatory 150th Anniversary</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-programs field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__items"> <div class="field__item"><a href="/news?program=29541">Piano</a></div> </div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-pin-school-page field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field__item">Off</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-photo-gallery-top field--type-boolean field--label-hidden field__item">false</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-image-credit field--type-string field--label-hidden field__item">Tanya Rosen-Jones '97</div> <div class="field field--name-field-news-media field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden field__item"> <img loading="lazy" src="/sites/default/files/styles/width_760/public/content/news/image/rs30445_bmg-001-lpr_0.jpg?itok=7-T3QPWu" width="760" height="501" alt="Piano in Warner Concert Hall "> </div> Mon, 07 Nov 2016 18:02:04 +0000 eburnett 9916 at Piano Professor Peter Tak谩cs to Perform at Carnegie Hall /news/piano-professor-peter-takacs-perform-carnegie-hall <span>Piano Professor Peter Tak谩cs to Perform at Carnegie Hall</span> <span><span>eburnett</span></span> <span><time datetime="2016-11-07T13:02:04-05:00" title="Monday, November 7, 2016 - 13:02">Mon, 11/07/2016 - 13:02</time> </span> <div class="text-content field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p><a href="/node/6801">Peter Tak谩cs</a>, an esteemed professor of piano at 麻豆视频 for 39 years, will launch a new series of performances at Carnegie Hall鈥檚 Weill Recital Hall beginning Sunday, October 18.</p> <p>Titled 鈥淭he Beethoven Experience,鈥 Tak谩cs鈥 Carnegie series will open with three early Beethoven piano sonatas and his Trio, Op. 11; Tak谩cs, a major exponent of Beethoven, will be joined by New York Philharmonic principal cellist Carter Brey and Metropolitan Opera Orchestra principal clarinetist Boris Allakhverdyan 鈥06.</p> <p>The series鈥 second program, showcasing music from Beethoven鈥檚 middle period, takes place Thursday, November 12.
