After the interruption of the pandemic, the last class to graduate on the square was in 2019. Now, 鶹Ƶ’s long tradition continues with a class that includes 665 members receiving their degrees—85 bachelor of music; two artist diplomas; 35 double-degree; and 543 bachelor of arts. She would later lend her hand to more than 30 works, including children’s books, literary criticism, poetry, and self-help literature. Among her acknowledgements, hooks was recognized as one of the most influential women of the past century by <a href="https://time.com/5793676/bell-hooks-100-women-of-the-year/" target="_blank"><em>TIME</em> in 2020</a>. The associate professor of <a href="/arts-and-sciences/departments/environmental-studies">environmental studies</a> and <a href="/arts-and-sciences/departments/comparative-american-studies" target="_blank">comparative American studies</a> discussed the labor of frontline communities to protect and repair the world and to create better futures through direct action, expressive culture, and social care. Her talk focussed in particular on 鶹Ƶ College’s collaboration with the community of Africatown, Alabama, the site where the last ship of enslaved peoples landed in 1860.
