This Week in Photos: Welcome Class of 2024</h1> <article> <h1>This Week in Photos: Welcome Class of 2024</h1> <p>ygay — Tue, 25 Aug 2020 14:37:09 +0000</p> <span>This Week in Photos: Welcome Class of 2024</span> <span><span>ygay</span></span> <span><time datetime="2020-08-25T10:37:09-04:00" title="Tuesday, August 25, 2020 - 10:37">Tue, 08/25/2020 - 10:37</time> </span> <div class="text-content field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item"><p>Staggered unloading times and COVID-19 test scheduling were just some of the procedures that became part of this year’s move-in days. And although smiles were obscured by facial coverings, the art of the smize (smiling with the eyes) was in full effect. There are 709 total new students this year (686 first-year students; 19 transfers; and four graduate students). Of the number of first-year students, 551 are in the arts and sciences; 102 are in the conservatory; and 33 are double degrees. The Class of 2024 have hometowns in 44 countries and 47 states. It’s something I had gotten away from since my kids were toddlers. Now they're nine and 12, and I find that one should be careful what they wish for— now I have far too much time on my hands to document my family adventures! Of course in some ways this is a wonderful thing. It has forced me to slow down and appreciate my wife and children and what's great about their personalities. On the other hand, I think we can all admit, even on our most optimistic days, the circumstances under which we're doing so are not ideal. We're all a little anxious and tense at times, and boredom and frustration can set in. But so far, so good. We're all doing our best to slow down and live moment to moment.
