Photo credit: Yvonne Gay</figcaption> </figure> </div> <p>Tucked inside the basement of Hales Gymnasium is a small group of students who meet with artist and award-winning author Aimee Lee ’99. The group is constructing handmade paper in the context of global history and culture. Using East Asian and European techniques, they apply materials to make and decorate paper that will be bound into books. <a href="https://flic.kr/s/aHBqjzBHmb">See more photos</a>.</p> <p>We continue our tour with a brisk walk across campus to the Geology Department in the Carnegie Building. With steady hands the small droplets of color are released and waft along the surface. Seconds later a pale freeform circle is formed. The students performing these marbling techniques in papermaking are examples of the many projects taking place this Winter Term. Pieces included <em>I’ll Fly Away</em> by Albert Brumley (performed by Sam Russ ’23, tuba; Zach Strong ’22, Sam Goetz ’23, and Ellie Weinberg '24, percussion; Ethan Pound '24 and Henry Zuccarello ’25, trombone; Ezra Rudel ’23, trumpet; and Nat Lewis ‘23, saxophone). As well as Cello Suite No. 2, Prelude and Courante by J.S. Bach (performed by Rituparna Mukherjee ’21, viola). </p> <p>“From a shared commitment to excellence to the values of discipline and perseverance and the experience of performance, onstage or on the field, similarities between music and sports are many,” says Dean of the Conservatory <a href="/william-quillen" target="_blank">William Quillen</a>. “Sharing Stages is a moment to celebrate our well-rounded student athletes, in both the conservatory and the college. Through collaboration and artistry, they create new points of discovery and foster connections across our tight-knit campus community.” </p> <p>The <a href="https://flic.kr/s/aHsmX6surp"
